Michael "Mike" Steven Bulfin
December 21, 1949 – January 29, 2018
Michael "Mike" Bulfin passed away peacefully at home Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, after a brief illness. Mike was born in Ft. Lauderdale, the only child of Francis Murdo (Connie) and Julia L. (Jute) Bulfin, who both preceded him in death. He attended Stranahan High School in Ft. Lauderdale, graduating in 1970. From an early age, Mike was passionate and extremely knowledgeable about high-performance engines and vehicles, especially in cars and motorcycles. For several years, he raced in motocross competitions.
In 1972, while visiting his parents in Palatka, Mike was involved in a freak motorcycle accident which confined him to a wheelchair for the last 46 years. Mike spent the next several years perfecting his camera skills and his beautifully creative photographs were well known in the area. In 1988, he and his parents moved to St. Augustine where Mike continued to care for them until the time of their deaths.
Mike replaced his love for motorcycles with high performance IROC Camaros and could often be seen riding around St. Augustine in his blue or red models, wheelchair tucked in the back. Music was another of Mike's passions. His digital library and CD collection numbered over 20,000 titles. In the early 1990s, he parlayed his love of music into a job as a DJ at local radio station WAOC. Known professionally as Michael Scott he ran the Trading Post from 6-7 p.m. during the week, regularly staying on the air till 10 p.m.
From June 2002 to May 2014, Mike could be seen in the St. Augustine Walmart, where he worked as a customer greeter. Mike was always engaged in life and enjoyed being around people. Those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Mike were keenly aware of his ongoing intellectual curiosity and wry sense of humor.
His many friends will greatly miss Mike's beautifully mixed music CDs at Christmas. He is survived by his loving dog LP, fancy cat Nadine, and great friends Bill, Terry, Wayne, Dimity, Scott, Judy, Patty, Peter, Shelly, Greg and Debbie Denike, Mike and Carol Ann Chevrette, Bill and Karen Sabo, Lydia Paula, Jason Vickery, Jim Bedsole, Herb Nicholas, Jean Thomas, Fred and Lisa Lloyd, to mention just a few.
